The aims of worship on Ash Wednesday are three: to reflect on our own mortality, sinfulness, and need for a savior; to renew our commitment to daily repentance and turn towards Christ; and to gratefully recall that Jesus has conquered sin and death on our behalf.
Our gathering will reflect these aims with meditative liturgy and music as well as being marked by ashes—which symbolize sorrow, mourning, frailty, and repentance. Ash Wednesday Worship is on February 14 at 6:00pm Our worship will last about 30-40 minutes and then you can jet off for that hot Valentine’s date! The January-February 2018 newsletter is available here. Inside you will find all kinds of information on what is happening at the Federated Church in the next couple of months. It's jam packed!
Also, please be careful in the icy conditions. The walkways at church are clear and will remain clear as close to 24/7 as we can get. However, we don't have the hundreds of pounds of salt it would take to de-ice the entire parking area. From 10:30-11:00, there will be people to assist you in walking from your car to the church. Pastor Seth will also be out there to park your car for you if you'd like to get out near the front walkway. If you need help de-icing areas around your house or need help safely navigating around, please don't hesitate to call the church, Pastor Seth, or your fellow members, and we will get something organized to keep you safe! Christmas Awesomeness This Sunday
Woohoo! We are in the full swing of a wonderful Advent and Christmas season! The joy continues this Sunday! Wear your favorite Christmas sweater (ugly, beautiful, or sublime in its weirdness) to worship at 11:00 this Sunday. Once there, you will encounter kind, wonderful people ready to worship with you. We will hear the story behind the carol, "Good King Wenceslaus" and how the good king lived a life for Jesus. We will sing songs, pray prayers, and be in the midst of the living God. We will be treated with a special performance by our bell choir that you won't want to miss! Then at 7:00pm in our sanctuary will be the Community Christmas Cantata. Join us as the community choir, children's choir, and bell choir perform a joyous Christmas program. Don't miss out this Sunday! The Christmas Bazaar is here!

Chili Cook Off This Sunday!
We are kicking off the fall with a chili cookoff! (Don't fret - the temperature will be in the 70's on Sunday... which will seem like cool, chili-eating weather compared to what we've had.) Worship is at 11:00 and then the chili cookoff begins! So get that favorite recipe going! We will have three categories: Grand Champion, Spiciest While Still Being Edible, and People's Choice. Prizes will be $20 gift certificates to local business and snazzy certificates that you'll be desperate to frame. Here's how to be a part of the fun... eaters only, skip to step two: 1. Make your chili and have it in a crock pot to be plugged in the fellowship hall before worship. Fill out a quick little card and tape it to your crock pot (info will include your name, how spicy your chili is, etc.) 2. Eat chili during fellowhip time. We will also have yummy food for those who don't eat chili. 3. Vote for your favorite chili for the People's Choice Award. 4. Winners will be announced before 1:00 (we hope). If you have any questions, comments, etc., contact Pastor Seth. The September/October 2017 edition of Federated Findings, the most popular newsletter about what's going on at the Waterville Federated Church is now available! Click here to read your copy!
